On Christmas eve, our car danced "makosa" on the icy streets of Calgary. It was my first experience of this nature with my entire family in the car and I was grateful we didn't end up in the ditch.
It was a different story for a young lady in her prime in the province of Ontario some days prior. Her car skidded off the road, somersaulted and landed in the river. The lady eventually succumbed to injuries from the accident and was laid to rest a few days to the end of the year.
It could have been anyone, at anywhere; not necessarily on an icy road. We never can be too careful or, what would the victims of a plane mishap that took their lives right inside their homes would have said? Were they not careful enough?
These events bring to mind the transitory nature of life. Some are blessed with long life while others, not so much. James 4:14 aptly summarizes our sojourn on earth. It confirms our lack of knowledge of what the future holds and compares life to a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.
So while we are on this earth and before our vapor vanishes away, how do you intend to live? For me, I have always tried to live from the viewpoint of love. The bible summarizes the 10 commandments into 2, both of which embody love - love for God and love for fellow man. If we deal with others from a place of love, the world will be a better place.
1 Corinthians 13 is a much cherished scriptural passage that has made significant impact in my life through the years. I urge you to choose love today.
